Hare Krishna!  Another year is about to be ticked off, with a new one waiting just over the horizon.
Humans are highly evolved living beings. The capability to conjecture good from bad, right from wrong as well as the ability of  comparison and selection of the right thing for a better life, is inherent in humans.  HUMANS are the special guests of the planet who are required to follow the principles and laws of the nature. The law of nature beckons to humans very specifically and only humans can understand this indication of the nature. Therefore there is a link between humans and nature and that link is, spiritual understanding.
The passage of time is so instructive to all of us. Time or Kala, represents Krishna and can’t be overcome by all the wealth or material facilities of the world. As the saying goes, “Time and tide wait for no man.” Time is more precious then gold, and once a moment is gone, it is gone forever. How should we apply this in our life as an aspiring devotee?
Therefore, In Vedas the foremost verse is: ATHATO BRAHMA JINGANASA, the inquiries should be about: Who am I ? Who created me and the universe? What is the relationship between the Creator (GOD) and me and what is my duty on the basis of this relation with GOD ?  These are the basic inquiries in the mind of Humans. One should focus on the point of highest intelligence that guides one towards his eternal  constitutional position. These are  intimately related to those who follow the principles and laws of the creator specially made for Humans.
Srila Prabhupada: We have to pass through 900,000 forms of aquatic bodies within the water. Then, gradually, we come to the form of trees and plants. There are 2,000,000 varieties. Then we get the bodies of the insect. There are 900,000 forms of body. Then we enter into the species of birds, 1,000,000 forms of body. Then, after bird’s body, there are 3,000,000 different varieties of beast body. Then, after this period, we become human body, but there are 400,000 species of human body.  And thus we get this nice human form of body with good brain and good consciousness.  So it should be utilized properly. That… By the laws of nature, prakrteh kriyamanani gunaih karmani sarvasah [Bg. 3.27]. This is the law of nature. Gradually, we develop different types of body and different types of consciousness. So when we come finally to God consciousness, or Krishna consciousness, that is the perfection of life.
The new year is a great time to review your past and plan for your future, but for any real change to occur there has to be a long term commitment.  Look ahead on how you can improve your life in general and spiritual practices in particular.
The best resolution for the new year 2014 is to take to Krishna Consciousness; for those who are already on the path of Krishna Consciousness, they should resolve to take it more seriously.
Happy Krishna Conscious New Year ahead!
