Human society is continually bothered with newer diseases – not to forget drug-resistant strains of organisms causing deadly diseases. Very often we hear this argument that modern scientific research has cured many diseases with cutting edge technological advancements in available tools and methodologies. The critical problem with this approach is that, the nature of human body, the constituents of the body and the real ownership issues of the body are being ignored. Worse, they have no knowledge of the same. How can we win over mother nature’s infallible execution of reactionary plan without proper knowledge and understanding?! How indeed!
Everyone should know that there are two kinds of diseases in human society. One disease, which is called adhyātmika, or material disease, pertains to the body, but the main disease is spiritual. One must know the necessities of the body and also the necessities of the soul. The real necessity in life is to supply the comforts of the soul, and the soul cannot be comforted by material adjustments. Because the soul is a different identity, the soul must be given spiritual food, and that spiritual food is Kṛṣṇa consciousness. (Teaching of Queen Kunti: Returning to our natural consciousness) The first lesson we need to learn is we are not the body; we are spiritual beings inside a time-bound, perishable machine. The living entity is eternal, but somehow or other, when in contact with the material energy, he is subjected to the repetition of birth, death, old age and disease. Although modern philanthropic physicians open gigantic hospitals, there are no hospitals to cure the material disease of the spirit soul. (Srimad Bhagavatam 4.7.24 purport) The main diseases are – repeated birth, death, old-age, diseases. Where is the scientific cure for these real dangers of life?!
